Ballet bar fitness is without a shadow of doubt the most fundamental and crucial aspect of any dancers regime and regardless of how long they have been practicing for, they need to ensure that they warm up properly before each and every dancing session.
Ballet is an exceptionally deceptive form of art, whilst it appears graceful, elegant and gently unassuming to the casual observer, it requires a great deal of physical exertion and commitment in order to effectively execute it.
Ballet really does require the dancer to exercise, strain and rely upon muscles that they previously would not have used, and so in order to prevent a serious injury they are well advised to ensure that they strengthen and develop these muscles before moving onto more demanding routines.
The whole of the lower body is used during the course of ballet and the problem here is that if the lower extremities of the body are not able to withstand the pressure and strain imposed by the dancing then the rest of the body will also suffer.
For example, if the feet are not strong enough to do a particularly complex move, then more pressure will be applied through the knees and lower back.
Ballet bar fitness should really be considered in terms of both actual strength of the muscles, and the stamina of the dancer as well. One of the most effective ballet bar fitness techniques is to lie against the wall with your back slightly curved, and then to stretch your legs out one at a time.
Another excellent exercise which is used to tone muscles and develop the balance of the dancer is the plie whereby the dancer will bend as low as they possibly can. The lower they can go, the greater strain on their balance this poses.
